Celebrating the Spirit of the Season: Holiday at the Heard Recap

Holiday Gathering at the Heard Scout Pueblo

In the heart of adventure and fellowship, the Grand Canyon Council Boy Scouts of America (BSA) recently hosted ‘Holiday at the Heard’ at the Heard Scout Pueblo on December 9, 2023. This festive gathering brought together a vibrant community, with 49 enthusiastic youth and 39 dedicated adults, totaling 88 participants who joined in the seasonal festivities.

The event buzzed with laughter and excitement as attendees engaged in a variety of activities. Among the highlights were the Winter Carnival Games, featuring classics like bean bag toss, candy cane ring toss, snowball toss, and a challenging mini-golf course. The Holiday Crafts station sparked creativity, offering winter-themed popsicle stick art, a delightful opportunity to build edible snowmen using marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and various candies, and engaging paracord knot tying.

A special mention goes out to our main guest of honor, Santa Claus, who graciously met and greeted everyone, spreading holiday cheer and making memories that will last a lifetime. The Archery and BB Gun Open Shoots offered a chance for Scouts and adults alike to showcase their marksmanship skills.

The success of the 2023 Cub Scout Holiday at the Heard wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers. Troop 577 and Troop 244 demonstrated exceptional teamwork, bringing in numerous Scouts and adults to contribute their time and effort. Their assistance during the event, particularly in the set-up and take-down phases, was invaluable.

A special acknowledgment goes to the Shooting Sports Committee, whose preparation ensured a seamless experience during the Archery and BB Gun Open Shoots. Their dedication to safety and organization contributed significantly to the overall success of the shooting activities.

Individuals such as Tom Collins (Troop 30), Shaun Neill (Troop 818), Sanidhya Samal (Troop 30), Brian Smith (Troop 244), Colvin Heeg (Troop 280), Nolan Heeg (Troop 280), and Misti Nichols (Troop 577) stood out as outstanding volunteers. Brian Smith led by example, bringing in 11 volunteers, while Misti Nichols rallied an impressive team of 12 volunteers from Troop 577.

In conclusion, the Holiday at the Heard was a resounding success, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie within the Scouting community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who contributed, making this event a cherished memory for our Scouts and their families. Here’s to many more adventures and celebrations in the coming year!
