Honoring Yuma’s Esteemed Mayor: 2023 Yuma Good Scout Award Event

On a night filled with reverence, respect, and the spirit of Scouting, the Grand Canyon Council presented the prestigious Good Scout Award to no other than Yuma's Mayor, Doug Nicholls.

This grand ceremony, held on the evening of October 10th at Brittain Farms, was a heartfelt celebration of Mayor Nicholls’ commitment to the Yuma community and his embodiment of the Scout Oath and Law.

The Yuma Good Scout Award Event has become a beloved tradition, recognizing individuals who have served their community and earned their peers’ deep respect and admiration. In the case of Mayor Nicholls, this honor couldn’t be more deserved.

Mayor Nicholls, a Yuma native, has dedicated his life to improving this sun-soaked city. In his third term as Mayor, he has worked to create opportunities for Yuma residents, focusing on job growth, education, and overall quality of life. He has led the charge as the founder and chairman of 4FrontED’s Governing Board, chaired the Yuma Multiversity Campus Governing Board, and held the esteemed position of Treasurer on the Arizona League of Cities and Towns Executive Committee.

Furthermore, Mayor Nicholls is a dedicated husband and father and also the owner of Core Engineering Group. His multifaceted contributions to the Yuma community have left an indelible mark, making him an exemplary recipient of the Good Scout Award.

The Yuma Good Scout Award Event was graced with the presence of Russ Jones, President and CEO of R.L. Jones Management Corp., who served as the event’s chair. Many business and community leaders from Yuma were in attendance, demonstrating their support and appreciation for Mayor Nicholls and the values of Scouting.

One of the standout features of this remarkable evening was its mission to give back to the community. The 2023 Yuma Good Scout Award Event raised over $36,000 for Arizona Scouting, a testament to the generosity and dedication of the attendees, sponsors, and supporters of the event.

As the night ended, the organizers and attendees expressed their profound gratitude to the event sponsors who made this celebration possible. Their support, through presenting sponsorships, eagle sponsorships, and table sponsorships, was invaluable in honoring Mayor Nicholls and ensuring the continued success of Scouting initiatives in Arizona.

As Yuma’s community leaders and residents came together to celebrate, they not only honored a dedicated public servant but also rekindled their commitment to fostering character and leadership among the youth of Yuma.
