Trainers EDGE

What is Trainers EDGE?

Trainer’s EDGE is a platform to help all trainers improve their presentation skills.  This training is required prior to staffing an NYLT or Wood Badge course.  All trainers are welcome to participate.  Areas to help improve a trainer’s effectiveness include:

  • Communications
  • Training Logistics
  • Media
  • Methods
  • Directing Traffic & Thoughts

Participants will have the opportunity to make presentations while receiving constructive tips on how to improve their presentation skills.  Platform skills of the trainer are the core of this training while focusing on the participant to raise the level of skill a trainer brings.

There is some pre-course preparation that is required.

FAQs

Anyone interested in improving their presentation skills should attend! This course is required for all trainers who train on the District and Council levels (including Wood Badge and NYLT staff). Unit leaders, Commissioners, and anyone else who would like to learn to communicate ideas better are encouraged to attend. This all-day course is taught by Scouters who have years of training experience in the GCC.

Explain how it is done – Tell them
Demonstrate the steps – Show them
Guide learners as they practice – Watch them do it
Enable them to succeed on their own – Use memory aids, practice it, they teach it

Prior to attending the course, each participant must prepare a 10-minute presentation on a topic from any BSA material. This presentation is to be given during the course. Your presentation should allow you to demonstrate the skills of a trainer. You will receive constructive feedback on your presentation from the other participants. You must supply any materials needed to support your presentation.
