The Boys Scouts of America has launched its Scouting through Soccer program as an outreach to all youth and families. Scouting and Soccer will teach and enhance soccer skills as well as provide exciting competition and the scouting youth will become Scouts and learn the life-long values taught in the Scouting program.
Why Boy Scouts and Soccer?
The Boy Scouts of America launched the Soccer and Scouting program as an outreach to Hispanic/Latino youth and their families in the Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties in 2004. This program teaches soccer skills, and provides some of the excitement of competition; but this is not our primary mission. There are many other places where young people can learn soccer and compete. We set our goals much higher in that our goal is to build better people by instilling the life-long values found in the Boy Scout Oath and the Boy Scout Law. The program works well, because we have combined the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training with the fastest growing youth sport in America.
