100% Trained Leaders Plan Overview

In an effort to ensure that the youth in the Grand Canyon Council have trained adult leadership, the council executive board voted to enact a 100% Trained Leader Plan. The plan goes into effect with the recharter process for 2020, which will begin in the fall of 2019.

All leaders must take the required training, as per BSA standards, that make them “trained” for their registered position.  Those who are not trained, will be placed in a reserve scouter status until the required training is completed.  All who are registered must have completed Youth Protection Training (YPT) within the last 2 years, or be “current “.

The plan will be implemented over a three year period as follows:

  • 3 year implementation process.

  • YEAR 1 (fall 2019) – “primary” direct contact leaders:

    • Den Leader, Cub Master, Scout Master, Crew Adviser and Skipper

    • Unit Committee Chair

    • Chartered Organization Representative

    • Merit Badge Counselor

    • District Committee member

    • Council Vice President

    • Council Executive Board member

    • Council, District, Unit and Roundtable commissioners

  • YEAR 2 (fall 2020) – assistants of all direct contact “primary” leaders

  • YEAR 3  (fall 2021)– Unit committee member
