FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Four Peaks District

*If you have popcorn related questions not addressed below, please email question to your district executive or district kernal.  Many questions will be added and answered on this page.  This page will grow the more we get into the sell.

*There is an easier way to get your questions answered.  Instead of hunting and pecking through this FAQ page, just run a search on our the Four Peaks District Website.  The search box is on the top left.  Our Four Peaks District's Site Index updates itself every Sunday at midnight.  Four Peak's search engine also will search SOME of the pages on our council's website as well as other district websites.

Question:

I'm not sure if my unit wants to sell popcorn.  We may be interested if the online sales allows for boy's popcorn sells to be tracked individually and then pooled to our unit as a whole.  Is this possible?

Answer:

YES.  Click "here" to view step by step instructions on how this is possible.

Question:

Why is it recommended that youth who do SHOW & DELIVER not bring or use chairs or tables?

Answer:

Youth will use the table as a shield.  Chairs cause them to not stay in movement and their sale will become stagnant with much time wasted.  Learn more about this from our training slide show used at our district training.

Question:

I was told that people who buy from our youth/unit online will automatically have the popcorn they purchased shipped to them directly from Trails End.  Is this true?  If so, do the shipping costs come out of our profits?

Answer:

True.  Online the price of the popcorn will be a little more expensive.  Shipping will be free to the customer and to the unit, but it should be understood that the higher online prices are meant to cover the shipping and handling costs.

Question:

I noticed that the council's popcorn page has a few broken links and some of the information seems out-of-date.  Is it out-of-date?  When will it be updated?

Answer:

The council's popcorn page was last updated at least as recent as of July 25, 2012.  That page is maintained by our council program department and not Four Peaks District.  If you have questions related to anything on that webpage, be sure contact our council program department by calling our main office in Phoenix at 602-955-7747, press 0, ask to speak to the program department.   The district popcorn website has been updated with current sale dates and deadlines as of July 27, 2012.

Question:

My child's scouting unit is still not sure if they want to sell popcorn.  I don't feel it is fair that my child can't participate in the sell just because their unit may be selling.  What are my options?

Answer:

If your child's unit chooses not to sell, they cannot prevent your child from selling popcorn.  Your child should just create their own account(s) online.  Your child can do an online sell's account for sure, regardless as to whether your child's unit is selling or not.  If your child's unit is not selling and your child wishes to do a SHOW & DELIVER or TAKE ORDER SALE, there are two options.

First option, create the normal Trails End account FOR your unit and maintain it for the rest of this selling season.  If other youth in your child's unit wish to do SHOW & DELIVER or TAKE ORDER SALES, they should just be maintained thought that one account.  In other words, they would join your sell.

Second option, have your child sell with another unit that is selling in your SAME SCOUTING DISTRICT.  (If you are reading this, you are probably in Four Peaks District)

Question:

When does my unit receive the money they earn from popcorn sells?  How is that money handled?  Who can use that money?

Answer:

It works like this.  Your unit puts in popcorn orders.  First, their SHOW & DELIVER order and later their TAKE ORDER.  Your unit does not have to pay for anything at this point.  On the Four Peak Popcorn Website there is a time line that shows when those orders are due.  At the end of the time line, it shows when all your unit's popcorn bills are due as well.  Up front, units will receive popcorn with no money out-of-pocket for their SHOW & DELIVER order and TAKE ORDER.

The unit collects money made through sales with their own unit account, this is probably same account your unit dues are deposited into.  Then. when your unit's bill is due for popcorn it had ordered, your unit merely pays its bill from its own unit account.  Bear in mind that it is in your unit's best interest to pay it's bill early.  There will be a finance charge for bills not paid on time.  Plus additional commission available for units that pay on or before the Dec 5th settlement date (5%)

Popcorn sales made online via the internet and email campaigns are handled differently.  Profits made online are deposited into your unit's Council Account and thus there is no money paid to the Council up front and their is no bill to pay for this at the end of the sell.  You will want to contact your council's program department or cashier, by calling our main office in Phoenix, to find out the balance on your online sales' profits.  Your unit's online sales commissions will be deposited in your council account towards the END of December or EARLY January.

Question:

Can my unit return unsold popcorn?

Answer:

Yes.  You unit can return ANY unopened cases of SHOW & DELIVER popcorn to Council on 10/26/2012.

Question:

Are there restrictions on popcorn products we can sell or order?  Like I heard that we can't order chocolate on the show & deliver order?

Answer:

Excellent question.  Chocolate is not included with the show and deliver order due to the large volume returned from melting.  So, yes, SHOW & DELIVER order chocolate is not permitted.  However, chocolate IS allowed for the Take Orders later on.

Question:

In regards to the prizes, a scout asked if the prize level is cumulative.  IE, if they reach level 2, do they pick a prize from level 1 and level 2?

Answer:

The prizes are not cummulative (scouts only get the prize from their highest category) in regards to gift card rewards.  Except for additional incentives provided by Council, Four Peask District or Council.

Question:

I understand that youth in scouting units are not allowed to solicit donations.  However, what if someone insists on giving the youth money when the youth was trying to sell popcorn?

Answer:

The youth could ahead and accept the money as long as it is enough money so the youth could then use it to buy the popcorn and then donate the product to someone else.  The popcorn would need to be purchased either way. Smaller amounts should be pooled and used buy Military donation popcorn.
